Summary:    

Foothills School Division is seeking a Family School Liaison Counselor for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year to provide support to students and families through universal supports within the classroom, targeted supports within small groups and individualized supports through counseling.  Further support is provided through advocacy and assistance in navigating and accessing community agencies and resources. 

Qualifications:     The FSLC Counselor should hold a Master’s degree in Social Work and/or Counseling. Previous experience working with emotionally and behaviourally challenged students and their families is an asset.
Description:     Family School Liaison Counselor works as part of the school team to support students and their families in reducing barriers to learning and helps students to be successful in school, at home, and in their community. FSLCs work together with families/guardians, outside agencies and school staff to help students meet their social-emotional, behaviour and learning goals at school. Support is provided through universal supports within the classroom, targeted supports within small groups and individualized supports through counseling. Further support is provided through advocacy and assistance in navigating and accessing community agencies and resources. FSLC understand the cultural context of the schools they work in and ensure their work supports and complements the work of the school team. The Family School Liaison Counselor is committed to targeted learning and professional development to support their role as part of the school based team and achievement of system goals.
