FULL TIME TEACHER – EDMONTON/STONY PLAIN, AB

 

The UP School Jurisdiction, a small, private school authority, is funded by Alberta Education and adheres to the Alberta Education K – 12 Program of Studies. Our students have special education and programming needs, many with emotional, behavioral and/or psychiatric disabilities. All students have Individual Program Plans.  We offer our students a 3-to-1 student-to-staff ratio.  Classrooms are limited to 6-10 students.

Qualifications:     Duties & Responsibilities:
 Planning, conducting and presentation of lessons as mandated by Alberta Education by utilizing various resources
 Evaluating the progress of each pupil systematically, objectively, and continuously, in accordance with evaluation procedures established by the school.
 Classroom management to promote a healthy learning environment.
 Carrying out supervision of pupils as required to ensure an adequate degree of safety while the pupils are in their care
 Cooperating with other staff members in the best interests of the students.
 Actively contributing to school’s educational objectives as a member of the school’s education team.
 Participating in curricular activities and extracurricular activities.
 Maintaining an approved school discipline plan.
 Keeping accurate up-to-date records of pupil achievement and reporting to pupils and parents/guardians, as required by the school. Reporting methods include report cards, data collection and entry and parent/guardian–teacher interviews, if requested.
 Providing and ensuring a nurturing, safe and secure environment for the individuals served, including but not limited to, the physical control of an individual by using Non-Abusive Crisis Intervention methods as necessary and the provision of First Aid Services as required.
 Any other duties the School Principal or CEO(s) may assign from time-to-time.
Description:     Qualifications/Experience:
 Individual must have a bachelor’s degree in Education and a Permanent Teaching Certificate from Alberta Education. (Upper Elementary Education would be considered an asset).
 Minimum 5 years of working experience with students with emotional, behavioral and psychological disorders in a Teacher role.
 Experience with Special Education is a strong desire.
 Demonstrated experience in writing individualized program plans.
 Proven experience in leadership, supervision, and evaluation of the teaching team.
 Strong written communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to assist students with mental health issues to move forward in a safe and positive way.
 Demonstrated commitment to caring for students’ well-being.

Other requirements: A current and clear Police Information Check, Intervention Record Check, valid driver’s license and a current driver’s abstract.
