This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual who is interested in social justice, social change, innovation, and collaborative work. e4c’s supportive housing programs provide housing for people in the middle of life transitions, looking for stability, recovery, and a better life. In your role you serve people who, due to histories of trauma and related mental illness and addictions, need enhanced levels of housing support.
The Crisis Intervention Worker position reports to the Site Manager, and provides key support to the housing program. The role is to foster a safe and supportive environment tailoring crisis intervention supports to meet each person’s specific needs.
e4c’s supportive housing programs operates on the cycle of the day, drawing inspiration from the recovery motto of “one day at a time”. The model provides wrap around team staffing that includes clinical supports with a community-based approach, of recovery and sustained wellness of the resident. The Crisis Intervention Worker oversees the nighttime shift, and is responsible for key response and decision making during crisis situations. The focus of this shift is taking care of the residents, and building in safety measures that allow people to rest.
Hours: 4 shifts on 4 shifts off: 10:00pm to 8:00am

|Qualifications:||Education and Certifications
• Degree or Diploma in the area of Human Services, Education and/or Administration.
• Required: First Aid and CPR, Medication Administration, Suicide Intervention and Food Safety Training
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
• Proof of Vehicle Insurance, Registration and 3 year Drivers Abstract.
• Police Information Check including vulnerable sector.
• Child Intervention Check.
• Recommended: Mental Health First Aid, De-escalation Certificate, Harm Reduction Training and Cultural Awareness
• Three (3) years of related direct service work experience.
• Proven ability to foster a team environment and provide reflective supervision to team members.
• Personal lived experience of addictions, mental illness, racism, discrimination, poverty is an asset
• Experience working in collaborative partnerships
• Working knowledge and experience with harm reduction, person-centered, trauma-informed, behavior modification, natural law, strength based, collaborative, and/or solution focused practice.
• Crisis Intervention: Strong crisis intervention/de-escalation training/skills. Ability to remain calm in crisis situations. Ability to work in high pressure and stress situations on a regular basis.
• Empathetic Outlook: The ability to perceive and understand the feelings and attitudes of others; the ability to place oneself “in the shoes” of another and to view a situation from their perspective.
• Communication: Comfortable communicating formally, informally, in groups and one-on-one. Able to obtain and share information, ideas, and problems. Able to ask for advice, support and accept feedback
• Relationship Building: Able to build formal and informal professional relationships. Fosters respect and reciprocity with participants/tenants, team members, other e4c personnel, external service providers and community members

|Description:||In Your Role You Will
Crisis Intervention Support
• Support residents to self-regulate risk behaviors, and to re-assert emotional control.
• Support staff in de-escalating crisis situations via the phone or in person, responsible for crisis decision making authority while on shift.
• Delegate follow-up tasks to house staff as needed while on shift.
• Enact emergency maintenance as required.
• Accompany and support residents at the hospital or other treatment centers.
• Manage situations where EPS/EMS are on site, as needed
• Review Incident Reports (IRs) and complete follow up, as needed
• Complete Critical Incident Reports (CIRs), and complete follow up, as needed.
• Submit nightly updates to Site Manager, Wellness Manager and Crisis Intervention Manager
• Communicate and consult with community crisis services, including, but not limited to EMS/EPS.
• Facilitate positive relationship building with neighbors and community members, whenever possible.
• Review Neighbor Documentation and alert Site Manager when follow up needs to be completed.
• Comply with all legislation, bylaws and standards (health, fire, safety, city, and accreditation).
• Understand and practice E4C’s operating policy and procedures and E4C Supported Housing programming policy and procedures.
• Other related duties as assigned.
• Use relationship-based approaches to improve residents’ safety and sense of security
• Communicate (verbally or in writing) pertinent information (resident/facility updates, etc.) to other housing program team to maintain wellness environment.
• Communicate and receive information from housing program team regarding progress of the residents, significant changes in behavior, any concerns/challenges that the resident is experiencing.
• When natural opportunity arises, promote conflict resolution, positive communication, empathy and respect (through positive reinforcement, role modeling and supportive listening).
