Summary:     As the Mental Health Therapist (MHT), you will be an integral member of our travelling team that provides mental health care to Indigenous clients residing in rural communities within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to support the Fort McMurray wildfire recovery. You will support clients and collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals through office-based practice, on-site visits, and through the utilization of technology, as well as in a client’s home community. You will provide consultation, assessment, treatment, crisis intervention and case management to persons across the age continuum who present with a variety of mental health issues and concerns. Your responsibilities will also include working in partnership with and providing clinically focused consultation to community agencies and other healthcare providers in the delivery of mental health services. You will be responsible for the delivery of evidence-based therapeutic counselling and support interventions. By utilizing a variety of treatment modalities, you will provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy. As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be working closely with psychiatric and acute care units, community mental health, Community Health Representatives, and Indigenous community health leadership. This position requires travel to rural and remote communities by vehicle and air throughout the year. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Qualifications:     Required Qualifications:
Completion of one of the following programs: Master's degree in Psychology. Master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Master's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Master's degree in Nursing including training and experience in mental health. assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience within the last five (5) years in comprehensive mental health assessment and the provision of psychotherapy. Experience in or knowledge of Indigenous cultures. Experience working in First Nations and/or Metis community settings.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to speak or understand an Indigenous language.
Description:     As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.
