Summary:     Relying upon your understanding of Indigenous populations (First Nations, Metis, Inuit), specifically the diversity in their cultures (Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, Metis), spirituality, religions (Traditional Indigenous, Christian, other), living environments (rural, remote, reserve, urban), you will advocate for and facilitate improved health services for Indigenous clients, their families and communities. In addition to ensuring correct protocols are followed when participating in traditional ceremonies and consultations, you will deliver education and understanding of Indigenous cultures to AHS staff, physicians, and volunteers who provide healthcare services to Indigenous patients and their families. By facilitating collaboration between AHS and the Indigenous communities it serves and by participating in case conferencing, you will help navigate through complex jurisdictional and treaty issues that affect healthcare services and programs for Indigenous Peoples. Developing and delivering health fairs, forums, and workshops, you will support Indigenous individuals and communities to learn about and practice self-care plus how to access health services and community resources. There is close client and family contact through education, collaboration, support, and advocacy. It is essential that staff maintain professional boundaries in their work while respecting and honoring the cultural diversity and spiritual beliefs of their clients. All Non-Union/Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. Qualifications:     Required Qualifications:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered including Grade 12 Diploma or GED, College certificate/diploma in related health care discipline, such as Community Health Representative, Social Work, Nursing. Knowledge of the diversity of Indigenous cultural and political structures. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment. Ability and flexibility to travel frequently.

Ability to solve routine and standard problems. Demonstrated punctuality, adaptability, discretion and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability and comfort with coaching and teaching individuals and groups. Ability to speak or understand a local Indigenous language.
Description:     As the Indigenous Health Liaison, you will be responsible for assisting with the provision of spiritual and cultural care to Indigenous patients/clients/families/population in various settings, life situations and crisis circumstances with an aim of promoting mental health and wellness. You will serve as a “bridge builder” within an interdisciplinary team model by helping to promote respect and understanding between Indigenous patients/clients/families and Alberta Health Services staff in the community and healthcare centre settings. You will be providing leadership in activities and ceremonies that help Alberta Health Service staff and Physicians embrace Indigenous peoples and their cultures, providing healing through honouring Traditional Indigenous ways in Western Scientific health care environments. You will be responsible for fulfilling administrative duties while respectful of sacred boundaries and confidentiality.
