The Program
At WJS, we believe individuals have the right to access services and connect with family without the undue stress of transportation issues.The WJS Driver Escort Program is designed to provide adults, youth and children transportation services aimed at strengthening and supporting families in their communities. Through the provision of safe transportation, the Driver Escort Program intends to prevent, reduce, or eliminate factors, which may place a family or individual at risk.

An example of an escorted drive would be transporting a child to a supervised access visit with their parents or to a medical appointment.

The Position
The Casual Supervised Access Driver provides transportation to adults, youth and children within the Lac La Biche service area so they can access services and connect with family. This position is suitable for post secondary students who wish to gain experience in Social Services, with youth and families.

In Your Role You Will
• Must be available for a variety of shifts including weekdays, evenings and weekends to accommodate needs of clients.
• Accept drive assignments according to directions stated on referrals, on a prearranged and on-call basis.
• Use own vehicle to transport clients to assigned locations (appointments, supervised visits, etc.) – mileage & expenses reimbursed
• Remain with family for the duration of supervised access visit, monitoring all parent-child interactions for safety and appropriateness; observing and taking log notes on family interaction
• Work in accordance with/gain knowledge of the Child Welfare Act and Child and Family Services Authorities
• Prepare accurate & timely reports/records of all drives, supervised visits, vehicle safety inspections, etc. as per WJS Policy as required.
• Report any discrepancies in vehicle operation.

Winter Warming Bus Support Worker

Boyle Street Community Services’ Winter Warming Bus runs from 2 PM-10 PM, seven days a week until April 30.

The purpose of the Winter Warming Bus is to:

  • Deliver life-saving, survival based services to those living outside around the city.

  • Connect with other Winter Emergency Response Drop In’s to ensure coordination of services.
  • Transport people downtown to emergency shelters when appropriate

The position does require working weekends and some split shifts during the week. The hours of work are between 2PM-10PM, 5 days a week or 2 days a week depending on shift availability.

This position is contingent on funding for the Winter Warming Bus.
