Working Effectively with Hope in Therapeutic Conversations - Category A Day


Alongside stories of difficulty lie powerful sources of hope that often remains unacknowledged and under-utilized in treatment. Indeed, current research indicates that hope plays a vital role in counselling outcomes. This workshop draws on 15 years of research and experience in the counselling program at the Hope Studies Central, a centre for hope studies associated with the University of Alberta. The strategies and tools offered in this seminar have been put to use with clients who have mental illness, physical illness, and complicated life challenges. 

Workshop Objectives:

  • become familiar with research to support hope practices
  • are introduced to a variety of hope tools
  • gain an understanding of how these tools might be used in their specific work situations  

Workshop Time:  9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Presenter:

Dr. Larsen, PhD, R.Psych 

Dr. Larsen is a Professor of Counselling Psychology and Director of Hope Studies Central at the University of Alberta. An experienced clinician, her research focuses on how hope can be effectively used in therapeutic conversations with adults, children, groups, and families.  

Attendance Requirements:  

In order to receive the 3 Category A credits participants must attend for the entire workshop.
Partial credits will not be provided.

Fees:

$25 for RSW and ACSW members

$15 for ACSW student members

$20 for other social work students

$50 for all other participants


Light snacks will be provided.
