                     Medical Assistance in Dying Workshop

This workshop will provide an overview and brief history of the medical assistance in dying legislation. Presenters will outline Alberta’s operational overview on the topic. Ethical considerations will be discussed as well as resources available to health care professionals. Dynamic group exercises will be used to engage participants.

Presenter:

Lise Lalonde, RN, BN

Lise graduated from the University of Calgary with her Bachelor of Nursing and has had a rewarding and varied nursing career. She began her career working in a Trauma Emergency Unit in Texas, then returned to Calgary to work in Intensive Care and moved on to being a Clinical Nurse Educator for 14 years in Urgent Care. Most recently, Lise was the site-wide educator for the opening of the South Health Campus hospital, and prior to joining the Medical Assistance in Dying Care Coordination Team was a Senior Project Manager helping to improve and standardize referral management within scheduled health services.

Nikoo Najand, PhD

Nikoo received her PhD from Queen’s University in Philosophy specializing in ethics. She completed a practicum in clinical ethics during her doctorate then taught Philosophy at Queen’s before joining the Clinical Ethics Service with Alberta Health Services in 2016. In her current role, she conducts and facilitates ethics consultations, provides ethics education, and reviews AHS policies/procedures/guidelines that have significant ethical implications.  


Attendance Requirements:  

In order to receive the 3 Category A credits participants must attend for the entire workshop.
Partial credits will not be provided.

Fees (Include Lunch):

$50 for RSW and ACSW members

$40 for ACSW student members

$45 for other social work students

$75 for all other participants

Please be sure to indicate any dietary concerns.

Buffet lunch will be provided including soup, sandwiches, salad and dessert.
