Exploring Mindfulness Meditation for Self-Care - Category A Day



For this workshop, participants learn about the background mindfulness meditation and its application as tool for self-care for social workers. After this introductory overview, participants will be invited to practice mindfulness meditation and movement. For the practice portion of the workshop, participants will be asked to sit on a chair or floor. A yoga mat would be ideal as a prop to sit on for the practices these exercises.   

Workshop Objectives:

  • To increase participant’s existing awareness and understanding of mindfulness meditation as a tool for self-care
  • To participate in introductory exercises on mindful meditation and movement

Presenter:

Sherri Tanchak, MSW, RSW 


Sherri is a PhD candidate and instructor with the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary. She is a faculty member of the Central and Northern Alberta Region, Bachelor of Social Work, Community Based Learning Circles Program, and is the coordinator for the Red Deer learning community. Sherri’s teaching and research interests include: workplace bullying and recovery, occupational stress, self-care practices in the helping profession and mindfulness meditation. 

Attendance Requirements:  

In order to receive the 3 Category A credits participants must attend for the entire workshop.
Partial credits will not be provided.

Fees:

$25 for RSW and ACSW members

$15 for ACSW student members

$20 for other social work students

$50 for all other participants


Light snacks will be provided.
