Workshop #1: Art Therapy for Social Workers

This is an introductory workshop for social workers interested in using the arts in their clinical and community practices. Lecture material and experiential art-making will assist participants in gaining foundational knowledge of art therapy for use in individual, family and group settings.
Primary Presenter: Marilyn Magnuson MSW RCAT
Bio: Marilyn Magnuson is an older adult counsellor for Carya Calgary. Marilyn has 40 years’ experience in nursing, social work and family therapy. She teaches art therapy at Prairie Institute of Expressive Arts Therapy in Calgary, and has a private practice. She is a graduate from Vancouver Art Therapy Institute, Marilyn delivers her counselling practice through art images using phenomenological, dialogical, narrative, experiential and humanistic approaches.

Workshop #2: Integrating Sexuality into Your Practice

In this training session participants will define sexuality in a broad context, explore their own attitudes about sexuality, and receive practical suggestions for engaging clients in conversations about their sexual health and well-being. This program helps professionals set boundaries around what is appropriate for discussion, and familiarizes participants with resources in the community.
Primary Presenter: Chelsea Kelba, BHSc.
Bio: Chelsea Kelba has a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree from the University of Calgary, specializing in Health and Society. Her previous work experience has been in the areas of suicide prevention, crisis intervention, mental health, teenage pregnancy and parenting, and employment assistance. She delivers non-judgmental, comprehensive, inclusive sexual health workshops to youth and adults of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS 1PM-4PM – Max 30 participants
Workshop #3: Creating a Culture of Respect for Gender Diverse Clients and Co-Workers

This session will explore the gender binary that exists in our culture and its impact on client service delivery. Participants will identify strategies to create safe and supportive environments for clients and coworkers who transcend our culturally constructed views of gender.
