As the Mental Health Therapist (MHT), you will be a member of a small travelling team that provides mental health care to Indigenous clients residing in rural communities in the North Zone. In addition to office-based practice, on-site visits and the use of technology will enable you to connect with other professionals as well as clients in their home communities. As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be working closely with psychiatric and acute care units, Community Health Representatives Program, Indigenous Health, Indigenous communities and Addiction and Mental Health operations as well as Primary Care, Allied Health, Seniors Health and others as applicable. This position is based in Lac La Biche, a growing community where we pride ourselves on our clean air, unobstructed views, and hospitable nature. We are the regional centre for business, health care, education, and government services. For the outdoor enthusiasts, we have over 150 beaches throughout our region. For the days you want to be inside, we have the Bold Centre, a 227,000 square foot recreation, entertainment and education facility!
Completion of one of the following programs: Master's degree in Psychology. Master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Master's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Master's degree in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of one of the following programs will be considered: Bachelor of Social Work including training and experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or a. Related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or, b. Considerable experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with: a. Related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or, b. Experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Three (3) years’ experience within the last five (5) years in comprehensive mental health assessment and the provision of psychotherapy. Experience in or knowledge of Indigenous cultures. Training in cultural or diversity competency.
Experience working in Indigenous community settings. Able to speak or understand any one of the Indigenous languages spoken in the communities being served.
|Description:||As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.|
