Refugee Awareness for Enhanced Service Delivery is a project by the Centre for Race and Culture to provide
accurate and comprehensive information about refugees to host communities. This workshop will support
individuals and organizations in understanding the pre-migration experiences of refugees, offer practical tools
for working with refugee families, and provide ideas for creating welcoming and inclusive environments that
ensure sustainable and successful resettlement of refugees in Alberta.

Learning objectives:
- Learn about refugee pathways and the global and historical contexts to the most recent resettlement efforts.
- Describe barriers and opportunities when working with refugee individuals and families.
- Practice using reflective and analytical tools to build their inclusive and equitable practices for refugee individuals and families.
- Plan for modifications to policies or service-delivery practices to create more inclusive environments.

Presenter:

Elli Dehnavi, PhD
 

Holding a PhD in Cultural Studies, Elli Dehnavi is a story-teller, university teacher, and public educator. She has
been actively engaged in the community to raise awareness about systemic discrimination. She has developed,
coordinated, and managed adult education resources, training programs, and support groups. Elli also works
with the Centre for Race and Culture in Edmonton as a Consultant and offers workshops on racism, unconscious
bias, creating inclusive communities, and gender-based analysis.


Attendance Requirements:  

In order to receive the 3 Category A credits participants must attend the entire workshop.
Partial credits will not be provided.

Fees (Include a light snack):

$25 for RSW and ACSW members

$15 for ACSW student members

$20 for other social work students

$50 for all other participants
